The people who walk the High Trail above the road are mainly foreigners. If you hike the path, you’ll find some solitude because you may meet only a few groups of hikers all day. Local Naxi people also use the trails. Whether you visit on a tour bus or hike, you can see some spectacular sights.

The Pudacuo National Park, in the east of Shangri-La, southwest Yunnan Province — is one of the most biodiversity regions of the world. The National Park contains and preserves many classic features of China’s southwestern region together with various aspects of traditional nomadic Tibetan plateau life.
Among these are the two great lakes of Bitahai Lake and Shudou Lake, which together form two holy lakes for the local Tibetan inhabitants. Not only can visitors to the park take in the stunning natural beauty of the landscape, but also learn something about plateau culture.

Bitahai Lake, regarded as a pearl of the Plateau, is an intact natural attraction with outstanding landscapes. In the nature reserve the plants are flourishing and the lake water is crystal clear. The average depth of the lake is 20 meters.
In the reserve itself, century-old pines and cypresses grow around Bitahai Lake. In the lake there is an islet covered by cedars and azaleas. In May every year an azalea forest on the lakeshore is in full blossom, stretching several kilometers. Around the lake are virgin forests, which is the ideal habitat for rare animals including red-footed pheasant, silver pheasant, wild bull, leopard and lynx.

Shudu Lake is 3705 meters above the sea level, which is one of the biggest lakes in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The lake is a famous pasture in every spring and summer, herds of yak and goat grazing beside the lake the shepherd’s shelters dots on the grassland. People can hear the sound of flute comes from afar. Staying beside the lake, you can deeply feel the quiet and leisurely life of high-land people.
The lake water is so limpid that people could see the cracked-stomach fish produced in the lake whose color is golden and there is a crack line along its stomach. Around the lake, there are dense forest of fir spruce and birch. There are different wild animals such as musk deer, bear, leopard, golden cat, deer, pheasant etc.
While there are more than 2,300 nature reserves in China, only a fraction are in areas of critical biological importance, and an even smaller number are well-managed. Pudacuo will meet the standards for national parks established by The World Conservation Union (IUCN) — and also advance both protection and sustainable development of this ecologically significant section of Yunnan Province.

Songzanlin Monastery is a typical Lama monastery. Located at the foot of Mt. Foping, four kilometers north of Zhongdian County, a monastery was first built here in 1679 and has been rebuilt many times. The architectural style of the building is a faithful imitation of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet.

Potala Palace: this ancient architectural complex is considered a model of Tibetan architecture. Located on the Red Hill in Lhasa, Tibet, it is 3,700 meters above sea level and covers an area of over 360,000 square meters, measuring 360 meters from east to west and 270 meters from south to north. The palace has 13 stories, and is 117 meters high.

Jokhang Temple: is a lama temple from 647, it is the most important temple in Tibet. the origin name of Jokhang Temple is Lhasa , later Lhasa is also be called the name of the city, this is the reason why the city Lhasa becalled holy land. The temple we visit nowadays was rebuilt and expanded in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty. Today the four stories Jokhang Temple mixed China construction style, Tibet construction style, Nepal construction style and India construction style into one.

Norbulingka: becalled Summer Palace in Lhasa, also becalled Jewel Garden. Treasure Park”, covers an area of around 360,000 sq. m. and is considered to be the biggest man made garden in Tibet. You will be amazed to know that there are more than 370 rooms inside its premises. Norbulingka is called Summer Palace because after the 7th Lama, Dalai Lamas used to visit here during summer to hold religious and government related activities.

Barkhor Street: is a famous commercial and commodity-distributing center in Lhasa, consisting of more than 120 handicrafts shops and more than 200 stalls. It is a good choice that should never be missed by tourists coming to Lhasa, for you can buy anything Tibet-related, from sacks of incense, chunks of yak butter to monk outfits. Barkhor is the road that pilgrims tramped out around Jokhang Temple through centuries. When walking along Barkhor Street, you should move in the clockwise direction.

Drepung Monastery: located at the foot of Mount Gephel, is one of the "great three" Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet. The other two are Ganden and Sera. Drepung is the largest of all Tibetan monasteries and is located on the Gambo Utse mountain, five kilometers from the western suburb of Lhasa.
