Jiaye Library, was built by Liuchengan(the grandson of Liuyong) between 1920 and 1924, the name fellowed "Qin ru jiaye" on a plaque send by the last emperor of China. It is the biggest private library of China, the amount of the stored books is up to 600,000 scrolls. The buildings are traditional style of Chinese architecture. The entire layout shows the delicacy and elegance of garden in southern part of Yangtze River. But the main building is a western style one.

Zhangshiming's former residencewas a European style building. It is the only one in all the ancient towns of southern area of Yangtze River. Many architectural materials were imported from France like the colorful glass. Such a building was located in a old town. It shows the house owner was deeply influenced by the western culture. There was also a dance hall in the building. While the outside women wrapped their foot tightly, the women in the house were dancing with the western-style music

Baijian Building : Built by a Ming Dynasty official for his family's servants, and people were amazed for his generosity as they looked at the magnificent building with its 100 rooms. Xitang (2hour drive from shanghai) densely distributed with rivers and has a very quiet natural environment. 9 rivers converge in this town, dividing it into 8 sections, but many bridges link this water town together.Inside the town, there are many well-preserved architectural groups constructed during the Ming and Qing dynasties, which boast a higher artistry and study value, thus being highlighted by the experts at home and abroad studying antique buildings. Through a bird's-eye view of the whole town, green waves ripple everywhere and every family resides near water. In the morning, water flows beneath bridges, thin mist is like silk, pinkish walls on both banks stand tall and erect and tiled houses are reflected inversely in the water. In the evening, the setting sun shines slantwise, songs come from fishing boats, lamps flicker and the fragrance of wine drifts. The whole old town is like a poem and a picture. In this town, people will feel that they are seemingly in an earthly paradise. It is hard to know that people exist in the picture or picture exists in the heart of people.

Lanes: Except the ceiling corridor the lanes are another eye-catching area in Xitang. There are many lanes here, long and short, wide and narrow. Some are dark all the year round; some are simply the drain of two families; most of them were the main artery of the town in the old days. Among all the different lanes, the narrowest is about 80cm (about 31 inches) wide and provides space for only one person to pass through at a time. The lanes are like ropes connecting the whole town into an organic net and no matter from which point you start, you can find any other place in the town.

Bridges: The bridges to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River are like the hyperlink to the internet. They are indispensable not only in terms of convenience but also in terms of beauty. Waterways are interwoven in Xitang, so it is not surprising that many bridges cross over the rivers. Here the creative shapes of bridges are very different from each other. What's more, beautiful legends about these bridges are still spread among the people. The craftsmanship of these well-preserved bridges is so masterly that they are indeed a feast for your eyes. Exquisite bridges dot the mirror-like rivers one after another, like flaring clusters of diamonds on the neck of the old town.

Houses: In the old town of Xitang, people who live there are not rich, so no newer modern houses have been built there. That's maybe one of the reasons why the old constructions are preserved as a whole almost without damage. In those archaic houses, besides the culture and value of the houses themselves, there are also displays of cultural relics or woodcarvings or eaves tiles collected by the house owner. To this day there are exhibitions of the ancient rare books of the owners passed down from generation to generation or rubbings from a stone inscription of a famous calligrapher. .

Ming&Qing Street , 160 meters long, is still paved with the original boulder strips, and the architectures on both sides with the original appearance were mainly built in Ming and Qing dynasties; going down the street, tourists will find many high-grade shops aligned row upon row, selling local specialties, various calligraphies and paintings, exquisite handicraft articles, and many tasty snacks cooked for immediate consumption. There are many lanes between streets, most of which are narrow and long such as Chunaxin Lane in Yuxing Street. Chuanxin Lane is 300 meters long, and tinkle sound will come out when people walk on it; the reason lies in the hallow space under these boulder strips which are paved in disorder by intention with various cracks left. Therefore, tinkle sound comes out when people walk in the winding lane.
